Resources for residents affected by October 20 storm

The City of Dallas wants to ensure that residents have access to all of the resources available to assist those impacted by the storms.

2-1-1
Residents may call 2-1-1 for information about questions about utility bills, financial assistance and more. To reach 2-1-1 directly, you may also dial (877) 541-7905.

OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
OEM will open a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Nov. 1 to assist residents impacted by the Oct. 20 storm. The MARC will provide wrap around services such as financial assistance, insurance, legal aid and more. For more information click here.

Red Cross
American Red Cross has established an emergency financial assistant program for households whose residences sustained major damage or were destroyed by the Tornado. Qualified households will be eligible for $450 to support emergency needs. Heads of household are encouraged to visit an Assistance Center to complete their applications. Red Cross caseworkers are available 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26 to Monday, Oct. 28 at 9509 Midway Rd (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). Major damage is indicated by significant structural damage to a residence that requires extensive repairs. This may include substantial failure of the roof, walls or foundation. A residence that is destroyed is one that is a total loss or with damage so extensive that repair is not feasible.
Red Cross is working with the City to staff shelters for those impacted. If you need additional assistance from the Red Cross, call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Bachman Lake Recreation Center
The Bachman Recreation Center will continue to serve as a respite center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Dallas Police Department
The Dallas Police Department is working to ensure the safety of residents by monitoring the impacted areas during the evening hours. To report any suspicious activity, use the iWatchDallas app or call the non-emergency number at (214) 744-4444.

Dallas Sanitation Services
All sanitation and transfer stations are open during regular scheduled hours for residents needing to drop off any brush and storm debris. For additional information about bulk and brush pickup schedules, call (214) 670-5111.

Texas Baptist Men
Texas Baptist Men’s rapid response team is cutting limbs and removing debris homes of residents affected by the October 20 storms.To request assistance with debris cleanup, call 972-639-7215.

Texas Department of Insurance
The Texas Department of Insurance has provided tips to guide storm victims through the claims process and great information on how to avoid contractor fraud. Visit the webpage here. For questions, call the TDI helpline at 1-800-252-3439 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD)
This hotline will allow homeowners to register their homes for cleanup by our VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) and other partner organizations who would be able to offer assistance. Call 833-556-2476 to register.
