North Texas classical music is better than ever on the new WRR

The New 101.1 WRR radio now has new sound, new programs, longer music sets and a renewed focus on live and local classical music programs. The new programming lineup which begins at 6 a.m. includes:
Only two commercial breaks per hour, allowing WRR to add more than four hours of music programs per week. Traffic, financial reports and other non-music features have been eliminated.

More than 10 additional hours of locally-hosted programs weekly. The popular syndicated program Through the Night with Peter Van degree now airs overnight and WRR local air personalities host a variety of weekend programs. Performances by the Dallas and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras will continue to air from 8 to 10 p.m. Monday, with additional local arts programs to be added in the future.

Two nationally-syndicated programs added to the lineup include Performance Today, 10 a.m. to noon weekdays and Exploring Music, 7 to 8 p.m. weeknights. Performance Today is the most popular classical music program in the country and features live recordings of public concerts and private recitals that have not been commercially released and are unavailable from any other source. Exploring Music takes listeners through an in-depth assessment of composers, symphonies, concertos and string quartets.

Other syndicated shows with a new time slot include: From the Top, 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday; Wind and Rhythm 8 to 9 p.m. Saturday; Fiesta! 9 to 10 p.m. Saturday; Millennium of Music 8 to 9 p.m. Sunday; and Pipedreams 9 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Popular WRR programs Girl Power and Command Performance will air at new times. Girl Power 7 to 8 p.m. Sundays and Command Performance from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday. WRR will continue to carry the popular Metropolitan Opera broadcasts at noon Saturday during the Met broadcast season.

“We’re dedicated to keeping classical music alive and on the air in North Texas and will be making other changes through the coming year to make listening to WRR a treat for the mind and hearts of our listeners,” said Interim General Manager of Programming and Operations George Landis.
