New DAS stats show more animals are being saved

Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is saving more animal lives than ever before. Recently released statistics show that Live Releases (adoptions, transfers and returns to owners) hit an all-time high of 72.8 percent in January, while humane euthanasia rates hit an all-time low.

“I could not be more proud of our staff, our volunteers, our community, and everyone who worked so hard to make this happen,” DAS Manager Jody Jones said. “The programs and initiatives we’ve put in place are working, and people are working together.”

In January 2012, the City of Dallas unveiled a plan to end the killing of healthy, adoptable animals in our community. The plan called for increased community involvement, more public/private partnerships to emphasize spaying/neutering pets and community outreach to pet owners in need.

In addition to saving lives, reducing euthanasia rates engages the community in the welfare of our animals, makes Dallas a pet-friendly place, saves tax dollars and improves the quality of life for pets and people.

To be a part of this historic effort, citizens can consider adopting, donating, or volunteering. Learn how by visiting DallasAnimalServices.org.
