Love Field Environmental Advisory Committee discusses noise levels and aircraft tracking

The Love Field Environmental Advisory Committee heard from airport staff and FAA representatives about a new system to reduce noise levels while also tracking departures of fixed wing aircraft.

Airport staff discussed an enhancement to the airport’s Noise Monitoring and Flight Tracking System that will reduce noise levels and also improve the ability to positively identify fixed-wing aircraft departing from Love Field as well as the runway used.  The system will us seven solar powered aircraft imaging pods at the end of the airport’s parallel runways and at the Customs User Fee Facility.

At these locations, aircraft that break an infra-red beam when entering the runway or customs facility will be photographed, capturing the aircraft type and its identification number.

Installation of the system is expected to be complete this spring.
