DART reminder: protect yourself and your belongings while traveling

Holidays are joyous times, but DART reminds you that increased travel between Thanksgiving and New Year’s also brings an increase in property theft.

DART maintains a strong police presence on buses and trains, monitored security cameras are present at all rail stations, and passengers can also text police dispatchers using the keyword DARTpolice to 41411.

Here are some proactive steps you can take to protect yourself and your belongings when riding on DART:

  1. Plan your trip before you board your bus or train.

While purchasing gifts, remember that thieves may be lurking to take advantage of you. Before you head to a stop or rail platform, know what bus or train you will be taking and when it is scheduled to arrive.

DART’s GoPass℠ app allows you to purchase tickets, plan your trip, locate your bus or train and connect with Uber if you need help covering that last mile. Download the GoPass app from the App Store or the Google Play store.

  1. Keep your bags close. Reduce your chances of being a victim by holding onto your bags while on a train or bus. This also is good practice when in other public places.
  1. Beware of parking lot pilfering. When parking at a DART station, lock your doors, park in well-lit areas and hide valuables from plain view.

If you see any suspicious or criminal activity while on a DART bus or train, contact DART Police immediately at (214) 928-6300 or call 911. Visit DART.org/Safety for more useful tips.
