Dallas Named Tree City USA

Dallas Named Tree City USA

The City of Dallas has been named a 2015 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Mayor Mike Rawlings received the news in a letter from Arbor Day Foundation President Dan Lambe, praising Dallas for being “a community that makes the planting and care of trees a priority.”

Dallas achieved Tree City USA status by meeting the program’s four requirements:

• Having a tree board or department
• Having a tree care ordinance
• Having an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita
• Having n Arbor Day observance and proclamation

The Tree City USA program began in 1976, and is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
