Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is launching a brand-new monthly event series designed to connect more shelter pets with loving homes while giving residents a fun, after-hours way to experience the shelter.
First Fridays will begin on Friday, June 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., extending regular shelter hours for an evening of family-friendly fun. The inaugural event also serves as the official launch for the Paws and Play Summer Kickoff Weekend, a three-day celebration running June 5–7.
The series is made possible thanks to support from the Louis B. and Mary Ratliff Animal Welfare Fund at The Dallas Foundation through a grant to Friends of Dallas Animal Services.
The goal of First Fridays is to transform the traditional shelter environment into a vibrant, welcoming community gathering. It’s the perfect opportunity for residents to stop by after work, hang out with friends or family, and meet some amazing animals looking for their forever homes.
The kickoff event on June 5 will feature:
- Free hot dogs while supplies last
- Live music by Nova Pangea
- Complimentary treats and interactive activities
- Fun surprises throughout the evening
- Extended hours to meet, bond with, and adopt shelter pets
“We’re always looking for new ways to help pets connect with potential adopters,” said Wendy Reiner, co-founder of Friends of Dallas Animal Services. “First Fridays allows the community to visit the shelter after work hours, spend time with our animals, and hopefully find their new best friend.”
