City to host Regional Fair Housing Symposium Thursday

Marking the 48th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, the City of Dallas and regional partners will host the North Texas Regional Fair Housing Symposium from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Arlington Convention Center, 1200 Ball Park Way.

The event is being held to further the goal of developing a regional plan for housing and encourage collaboration with other local jurisdictions and non­profits in finding solutions to affordable housing challenges.

Speakers will include former HUD Deputy Secretary Ron Sims and Professor John Friedman of Brown University. Special guest will be Gustavo Velasquez, Assistant Secretary of HUD for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity.

Three panel discussions will also be held:

  • “Fort Worth’s Approach to Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities” facilitated by Fort Worth City Council member Kelly Allen Gray.
  • “Not in my Backyard” facilitated by Demetria McCain of the Inclusive Communities
  • “The Impact of HUD’s New Rule” facilitated by Dallas Housing Authority CEO MaryAnn
