City Making Progress on Storm Debris Removal

The City of Dallas has made significant progress on picking up brush and debris left by the Oct. 2 severe weather, collecting more than 21,000 tons of debris in just the first three weeks of the month. Average October bulk/brush collections are around 12,000 tons a month.

Sanitation crews have been working six to seven days a week, with assistance from Code, Streets, Trinity, Equipment and Building Services and outside contractors. Sanitation Director Kelly High said the department has been able to maintain the regular weekly collection schedule for October, and crews moved into Week 4 Collection, Monday, Oct. 27. Week 4 collections are scheduled to occur through Nov. 1.

“Our goal is to stay on track and on schedule,” he said. “The storm left a large amount of debris across our city, so we’re asking residents to please be patient as our workers continue to make progress.”

Residents are also asked to limit bulky item set outs during this cycle because of the volume of storm debris. Code Compliance will not issue citations for early set out of storm related brush/debris through the month of October.
