WIC Lactation Care Center will move in 2015

Because of a large increase in clients since opening in 2010, the City of Dallas Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Lactation Care Center (LCC) will be moving to a larger space in 2015. The new location will be next door to their current facility at 2600 Stemmons, in the Dallas Medical District.

The LCC is a training center for medical students and resident physicians, with more than 60 residents receiving training in 2014. Another 2014 accomplishment was the LCC participation in a multi-hospital collaborative project to help support hospitals striving for the Baby Friendly Hospital Designation.

Through this partnership, more than 1,400 health care providers and WIC staff received hands-on skills training in several areas of lactation in 2014. LCC staff will continue to offer the skills training on a quarterly basis for new employees at the participating hospitals or WIC. In January, LCC staff will begin a training program for more than 100 medical students.

The LCC offers breastfeeding assistance to mothers currently enrolled in the WIC Program, with the goal of helping mothers increase duration and exclusivity. Being near Parkland Memorial Hospital, UT Southwestern and Children’s Medical Center allows the LCC to partner with these facilities, as most client referrals come from these and other Dallas area hospitals. In 2014, more than 2,500 mothers received support from the LCC staff.

The Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Help Line: (855) 550-6667. Visit www.lactationcarecenterdallas.com or on Facebook-DallasLactationcarecenter or Twitter0LactationCareCenter@LactationCare10.
