Dallas officers receive Life Saving Awards

Two Dallas police officers were honored for their quick action that saved the lives of two injured citizens. Chief David Brown presented the Department’s Life Saving Awards to Officers Richard Dallatorre and Damein Lookenbill in a ceremony at Dallas Police Headquarters.

After responding to an Oct. 10 disturbance call, Officer Dallatorre saw a man unresponsive and bleeding profusely from his right arm. He took immediate action, applying a tourniquet to the victim’s arm to slow the bleeding until Dallas Fire Rescue’s arrival. Paramedics and the doctor who performed emergency surgery said Officer Dallatorre’s quick action very likely saved the victim’s life.

Responding to an Oct. 30 shooting call, Officer Lookenbill found the complainant on the ground with a gunshot wound. Seeing blood spurting from the man’s leg, consistent with an arterial bleed, Lookenbill immediately applied a tourniquet to the man’s leg, stopping the bleeding. DFR paramedics took him to Baylor Hospital for emergency surgery, noting that the officer’s quick thinking kept the injured man from bleeding to death before their arrival.

This exceptional work done by Officers Dallatorre and Lookenbill exemplifies their dedication and willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty.
