City Employees Rescue Horses

Dallas Animal Services (DAS) Manager Jody Jones may file her latest on-the-job experience under “Never a dull moment at DAS.”

On her way back to the shelter after a City Hall meeting, Jones passed a truck and trailer with two horses, seemingly abandoned on the shoulder of Interstate 30. She stopped, found the horses in some distress, and not seeing the owners, she quickly called for backup.

Fortunately, the trailer was only about a mile from DAS, so Field Services Manager Adrian Vela, Veterinarian Dr. Melissa Betten and Animal Services Officer John Oliver responded quickly. Using Oliver’s pickup, the employees were able to haul the trailer to a safe location at the shelter, where the horses calmed down and cooled off while the owners, who had left to seek help after their truck broke down, were located.

Those owners have now been safely reunited with their horses, thanks to quick action from Dallas Animal Services.
