City Council Approves Fluoride

On Wednesday, the Dallas City Council voted 12-2 in favor of authorizing a three-year master agreement for the purchase of hydrofluosilcic acid (more commonly known as fluoride) to be used for the treatment of Dallas’ potable drinking water.

The fluoridation of Dallas water started with a resolution enacted on August 9, 1965 to fluoridate drinking water at all three purification plants. Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) provides service to about 2.3 million people in Dallas and surrounding communities. On average, the City pumps more than 410 million gallons of fresh water every day.

Mosaic Crop Nutrition, LLC, was the selected lowest responsible bidder and costs are expected not to exceed $1,060,800, paid for by Dallas Water Utilities.
