City announces progress in cleaning up illegal dumping in Dallas

The City of Dallas announced its RealTrashTalk campaign to crack down on illegal dumping in Dallas, and results are already being seen. The Dallas Marshal’s Office made 22 arrests for illegal dumping in June alone with a total of 197 arrests during the 2015 fiscal year to date. The previous year saw 142 illegal dumping arrests.

In the past six months, the City has crossed eight chronic sites off their list of 62 chronic illegal dump sites in Dallas, bringing the number down to 54. Many of the illegal dumping cases in Dallas are contractors trying to avoid fees at the landfill.

Snackable - ArrestsCode Compliance received 5,000 reports of illegal dumping this fiscal year to date and are on track to hit more than 6,700 reports, an 18 percent increase. “This is a good thing,” said Dallas Marshal’s Office Chief Deputy Paul Hansen. “Increased citizen awareness and reporting helps us set up our surveillance systems to lead to more illegal dumping arrests.”

Officials urge citizens to call 911 if they see illegal dumping. Note the vehicle description, license plate and suspect description to assist authorities. Call 311 to report illegal dumping sites. CrimeStoppers also offers up to $1,500 for information leading to an illegal dumping arrest.
