BIG FIX for Big D Initiative hits major milestone

The Big Fix for Big D has hit a major milestone, providing more than 20,000 spay and neuter surgeries for Dallas dogs and cats. The program offers free spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations and registration for animals in eight of the highest need zip codes in Dallas.

Organizations providing the free services are Dallas Animal Services, Dallas Companion Animal Project, Spay Neuter Network and the SPCA of Texas. These organizations will continue offering free surgeries and vaccinations for both owned pets and community cats through March 2015. Pets that do not have a current city registration will also be registered at no cost.

“More than 16,000 dogs and cats were euthanized last year in Dallas and Big Fix for Big D is doing its part to significantly reduce the number of unwanted animals that might otherwise end up in a shelter or be left to roam Dallas streets,” said Big Fix for Big D Project Manager Diana Rowden.
The Big Fix for Big D initiative is funded by the Companion Animal Funders Coalition, which includes The Dallas Foundation, The Meadows Foundation, PetSmart Charities, The Rees-Jones Foundation, George & Fay Young Foundation, the Mike & Mary Terry Family Foundation and the Summerlee Foundation. The City of Dallas provides in-kind support.
