Wheelchair Games Coming to Dallas

Mayor Mike Rawlings and U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson recently joined the North Texas Health Care System and Paralyzed Veterans of America to announce the 35th annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games will be coming to Dallas next year.

The Wheelchair games is a sports and rehabilitation program for veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition due to spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, amputations and other neurological conditions. Attracting more than 500 athletes each year, the Wheelchair Games is the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world. It also signifies the VA’s commitment to support and promote independence and active living for veterans with disabilities through wheelchair sports and recreation.

Dallas will host the June 21-26, 2015 National Veterans Wheelchair Games with the theme, “Big City, Big Wheels, Big Heart.” The National Veterans Wheelchair Games is expected to bring in more than $4 million to local businesses. Events will be held at the Dallas Convention Center, Southern Methodist University, USA Bowl and. McIinnish Park in Carrollton.
