Special City Council meeting set for Tuesday to discuss Chapter 27

The Dallas City Council will hold a special meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday to hear public comments on proposed amendments to City Code Chapter 27, which includes Minimum Property Standards.

Citizens are invited to attend the meeting, to be held at Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla St., in the City Council Chamber.

Anyone wishing to address the Council at this meeting is required to register with the city secretary; in person, by email or phone no later than 3:30 p.m. May 17. Call (214) 670-3738 or email [email protected].

The purpose of the minimum property standards is to protect the health, safety, morals and welfare of City residents by requiring existing residential and nonresidential structures to be maintained according to enforceable standards.

Forty percent of Dallas residents live in apartments subject to periodic inspection by Code and Fire. Twenty percent of Dallas residents live in rented single-family or condominium properties with no periodic inspections. Poor housing conditions can be triggers of asthma, insect infestation, mold, and bad air quality.
