Remembering the fallen – Dallas Police Memorial Day

The City of Dallas observes Police Memorial Day in May each year. A somber event, Police Memorial Day recognizes the Dallas Police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. The names of fallen officers are etched into to the Dallas Police Memorial at the corner of Akard and Young Streets. In 2019, Police Memorial Day is observed on May 8. This year, two new names will be added to the Police Memorial.

Dallas lost two officers in 2018. Officer Rogelio Santander, Jr., #10934, was shot in the line of duty on Tuesday, April 24, and died as a result of his injuries on Wednesday, April 25. Officer Santander was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division and had three years of service.

 

 

 

 

Senior Corporal Earl “Jamie” Givens III, #5484, was struck by a drunk driver on Saturday, July 21 while providing a motorcycle escort for a funeral procession for a fallen officer. He died as a result of his injuries. Sr. Corporal Givens was assigned to the Traffic Unit Motorcycle Squad, and had 32 years of service with the Dallas Police Department.
