Neighborhood Plus program explores opportunities and proposes solutions

A new program will help improve quality of life in Dallas by exploring opportunities and proposing solutions to issues that have plagued the City for decades. Neighborhood Plus will initially focus on three areas for action: the Lancaster Corridor, Education Corridor and the Parkdale/Urbandale area.

“The (program’s) strategic goals of alleviating poverty, fighting blight, attracting and retaining the middle class, expanding home ownership and enhancing rental options will take a comprehensive approach to neighborhood revitalization through a collective impact framework,” said Neighborhood Plus Chief Alan Sims.

Several early development initiatives have laid the groundwork for continued development of the program. These include Mayor Rawlings’ High Impact Landlord strategy, Code Compliance improved rental registration and inspections, entrepreneurship assistance at 26 Dallas libraries and matching grants and pro-bono assistance

The Neighborhood Plus 2016 work plan will be presented to the Council’s Housing Committee on Jan. 4.   City Manager A.C. Gonzalez has appointed a steering committee with representatives from 18 city departments to help develop neighborhood revitalization solutions.
