Neighborhood groups encouraged to register for Operation Beautification

The City of Dallas is encouraging neighborhood, faith based, community, school and business groups to participate in Operation Beautification. Registration for the annual citywide spring cleanup will continue through May 9 and the event will be held on Saturday May 21.

“Operation Beautification was initiated by the City Council back in 2012 and every year it gets bigger,” said Planning and Neighborhood Vitality Coordinator Joe Yanez. “A total of 134 groups have participated and more than 82 tons of trash has been collected citywide since it all started.”

Op Beautification logo 2016Operation Beautification is a call to action for residents, neighborhood associations, crime watch, faith based and civic organizations to dedicate a few hours to making their community beautiful. It’s all part of an effort to keep neighborhoods free of trash/brush, maintain healthy and sustainable neighborhoods and foster civic engagement through community-led cleanups.

“Residents have asked how they can get involved in the next clean-up project. I’ve noticed others in that area cleaning and we’ve made a positive impression on individuals that “hang out” outside the local convenience stores” said a Pleasant Grove community group leader. “Our community looked so much better after the clean-up and you could see the appreciation in the face of residents. We made a difference!”

The City will coordinate with participating groups to provide out-of-schedule trash collection for neighborhoods that choose to join this special event. Cleanup projects are determined by each participating group.
