Local artists invited to enter Sanitation Department Art for Dumpsters competition

Sanitation Services is accepting applications from artists and teams to compete in the Art for Dumpsters project, to be held Saturday April 2 during the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. The family-friendly event will include food trucks, music and interactive environmental education. Visitors will also be able to see the artists in action.

Selected artists will paint dumpsters and the final works will be exhibited on recycling containers throughout the city. The Best in Show award will be displayed as a wrap on a City of Dallas collections truck.

Artwork must reflect a message that communicates the benefits of recycling and being environmentally friendly and incorporates Dallas into the theme. Artists are encouraged to enter solo or as a team (maximum of five members). The goal is to provide a creative message about recycling and how it effects the environment and to increase awareness of the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Sites.

The revamped recycling dumpsters will be placed in high profile areas to make the surrounding neighborhood more aware of recycling and to engage people in recycling at the site.
