Investigation continues in aftermath of attack on Dallas Police Headquarters
Dallas Police Crime Scene Analysts and federal partners are processing evidence collected after Saturday morning’s attack on Dallas Police Headquarters. Several squad cars were hit by gunfire and windows broken in the headquarters building, narrowly missing officers in their cars and inside the building.
Weapons and ammunition used in the attack are being processed and analyzed, the crime scene outside Dallas Police Headquarters has been cleared, and work to reopen the DPD HQ lobby to the public is continuing.
Police report that 14 officers from various work assignments engaged the suspect at different points in the incident. Officers involved have been placed on administrative leave per departmental policy. Police say there is no indication at this time that others were involved in the planning, preparation or execution of the attack.
Interviews have been scheduled for each officer once their leave has been completed. All involved officers, including witness officers will be monitored and counseling will be available.
Investigators continue to conduct interviews and canvass all areas where the incident occurred. The medical examiner has received the suspect’s remains and an autopsy is pending. Detectives have also been in contact with the suspect’s family.
