Dallas remains the most populous city in the nation with 100% green power for its operations
The City of Dallas will continue to provide green energy for at least a decade longer. A new contract was executed with TXU Energy Retail Company, LLC (TXU) to provide green energy for 100% of the City’s approximately 2,800 electricity meters for the next ten years beginning June 1, 2019.
Tradition Energy, an independent procurement advisor, delivered multiple offers that exceeded what the City had received in the past year. The contract with TXU Energy is valued at $472.6 million, and reduces the City’s rate by over 26% compared to the previous contract. This reduction is expected to save nearly $80 million over the 10-year term of the contract.
The City will initially draw power from the Foard City Wind Farm in west Texas. TXU Energy agreed to work with the City to develop new renewable assets in North Texas at no additional charge. The contract also provides $1.5 million for energy-related projects and $300,000 for community programming.
