Dallas Park and Recreation Director receives Lifetime Achievement Award

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Dallas has presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Park and Recreation Director Willis Winters.

“I’m honored to receive such a distinction, especially since it comes from my peers,” said Winters. “I have a true passion for our city and its architecture, and I’m so grateful to be recognized for my contributions in a profession I truly love.”

aia_celebrate_misc (15 of 19)Winters has been with Dallas Park and Recreation since 1993. Under his direction, the department developed new exhibits at the Dallas Zoo; planned and implemented recreational amenities within the Trinity River Corridor; formulated the Park Pavilion program; and guided restoration of the National Historic Landmark architecture at Fair Park.

Winters has served several leadership positions for AIA Dallas including the Twenty-Five Year Committee and National Convention Planning Committee to Homes Tour and Design Awards. He was awarded the President’s Medal back in 1985 for his service to the Chapter. He is also active at the state level, having been a contributing editor to Texas Architect magazine since 1992. He is the author of six books, including Fair Park (2010) and Dealey Plaza (2013).
