Dallas Animal Services reaches capacity for large dogs

Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is over capacity heading into the Fourth of July holiday, and with an influx of animals expected to arrive is in urgent need of adopters and fosters.

DAS needs your support to come together and help us achieve a 90% lifesaving goal by adopting or fostering a pet this week. All pets are currently free to adopt; are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped; and come with a voucher for a free veterinary visit. To encourage adopters DAS is also currently offering a $50 gift card for all animals adopted from the Westmoreland location (1818 N Westmoreland Rd) while supplies last.

To keep your pets safe over the holiday, DAS recommends leaving them at home while the family goes to the fireworks show. To keep them comfortable, activities like treat puzzles and Kong toys help distract them from the noise. Just in case, always make sure your pets are microchipped and wearing secure ID tags with up-to-date information.

Our goal is to BeDallas90, and in Fiscal Year 2020 (October 2019 – September 2020), DAS surpassed its 90% live release rate goal – the highest in history – while taking in 22,812 cats and dogs. Right now, the live release rate for cats and dogs for Fiscal Year 2023 is at 76%, but DAS is confident that with your help, we can once again achieve the 90% milestone.

Potential adopters and fosters can visit BeDallas90.org to see available pets, adopt or apply to become a foster online, or find out more about in person adoption opportunities.
