Council updated on Resilient Cities program

Chief Resilience Officer Theresa O’Donnell provided the City Council with new details about the 100RC Resilience Strategy Process – a 6 to 9 month effort to develop a road map to resilience for the city.

The process will engage a broad range of stakeholders, leverage existing plans and actions, identify cities’ unique resilience priorities and generate an actionable set of initiatives. Phase One will include development of a Public Outreach Plan; collect and analyze existing plans, programs and actions; and identify perceptions of the city’s resilience strengths and weaknesses.

Phase One will culminate in a Preliminary Resilience Assessment which captures the city’s resilience strengths, weaknesses, gaps and opportunities, and recommends 3 or 4 focus areas for further research and analysis in Phase Two

O’Donnell also told the Council she is building a City Profile of research to better understand Dallas’ resilience challenges and opportunities; creating an inventory of resilience actions; and exploring risk by prioritizing shocks and stresses and exploring their interconnections. Community outreach is also being conducted through neighborhood workshops and town hall-style meetings.

RC circle graphThe City Resilience Framework has four key dimensions: Leadership & Strategy, Health & Wellness, Infrastructure & Environment and Economy & Society. The four dimensions are further divided into 12 drivers which are the basis for exploring the city’s ability to withstand a wide range of shocks and stresses.
