Convention Center accepts EPA Food Service Challenge

The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas is challenging other North Texas food service facilities to join them in accepting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Food Service Challenge to keep unconsumed food out of landfills, and into the hands of people who need it.

The convention center’s partners in the effort are Centerplate, Rock N Wrap it up and EPA Region 6. Since the Convention Center started the EPA challenge on March 5, nearly 500 pounds of fresh donated food has been delivered to Dallas residents in need.

A Business Week interview highlights the USDA’s findings that 30 percent of purchased food is wasted in America. The interviewee mentions Rock N Wrap it Up, one of the City’s partners to deliver left over convention center food to Downtown nonprofits.
