Continuing progress on illegal dumping effort in Dallas

City Marshals eliminated six more chronic illegal dumping sites in Dallas last month, bringing the number of chronic illegal dumping sites down to 37 still being monitored, compared to 62 in January. In July, the City Marshals also made 10 new arrests for illegal dumping. A record number of illegal dumping arrests (207) have been made this fiscal year to date in the City of Dallas.

“Currently we only have six active illegal dumping related warrants waiting to be served,” said Chief Deputy Paul Hansen. “We are up to date on all warrants, meaning that once we get a warrant, we immediately go out and arrest that person.” The City Marshal’s Office and Code Compliance install cameras in chronic sites to catch those illegally dumping. Many offenders illegally dump to avoid fees at the City landfill.

The City launched the RealTrashTalk campaign in May and has since seen major progress in curbing illegal dumping. The City urges citizens to call 3-1-1 when they see an illegal dumping site and to call 9-1-1 if they see dumping in progress. CrimeStoppers also offers up to $1,500 for information leading to an illegal dumping arrest.
