Other Disposal Options

Sanitation customers may place trees and any additional holiday waste out for collection during their monthly brush and bulky set out period. Click here for program rules and set out times (trees will not be recycled).

Dallas residents may take trees to Northeast (Fair Oaks) or Southwest (Westmoreland) transfer stations for disposal (trees will not be recycled).

Each city in North Texas has different rules, so residents outside of Dallas should check with their city for more information.

How many Christmas trees do we expect to receive?
The City collected and recycled over 7,500 pounds worth of trees last year.

Why doesn’t Dallas collect curbside like some other cities?
Sanitation collects brush and bulky items curbside each month. The City is currently exploring options to collect vegetative waste separately in order to divert that material from the landfill.

Is there anything else residents should know?
We encourage Sanitation customers to download the Sanitation app to their mobile devices and sign-up to receive service advisories and other announcements from us. Search for “Dallas Sanitation” in the App Store and Google Play, or learn more at Dallas.gov/Sanitation.

What do you do if you have additional bulk items that were left over from the holiday season?
Dallas Sanitation customers can utilize the monthly brush and bulky item collection service for disposal of extra waste. Be sure to review the program rules at Dallas.gov/Sanitation before setting out materials. Alternatively, Dallas residents can self haul waste to one of the City’s 4 waste disposal sites at no charge.
Outside of Dallas, check with your city to see what options are available.

Do you have any tips for recycling Christmas tree?
Be sure to remove all decorations, tinsel, and lights, as these materials are not biodegradable and can interfere with the recycling process.
