City of Dallas Celebrates Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month

DALLAS – The Dallas Police Department Office of Community Affairs is teaming up with the AT&T Performing Arts Center to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

“We hope people can join us to learn more about the diversity within the Asian culture and the resources that exist to support our communities. In providing these resources, we hope to increase understanding, reduce discrimination and build a community that is welcoming and inclusive for all,” said Genesis Gavino, Chief of Staff to the City Manager and first Filipino American to serve on the City’s Executive Leadership Team.

Residents are invited to kick off Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month with a party in Sammons Park, featuring authentic food vendors, local artisans, performances and artist demonstrations.

Over 50 vendors and organizations will be in attendance.

“Our commitment through our outreach efforts to the Asian Community and to the AAPI Celebration is the true foundation to building trust within our Asian communities. Engaging and empowering our communities is our true motto to enhancing quality of life,” said Robert Munoz, Manager of the Office of Community Affairs, Dallas Police Department.

The celebration is on May 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sammons Park, 2403 Flora St., Dallas, TX, 75201.
