Citizen Foresters learn how to keep Dallas growing

The City of Dallas Citizen Forester training program educates participants on tree physiology, identification, proper planting and pruning techniques, benefits of trees and encourages stewardship of natural resources.

“In addition to tree planting and care, Citizen Foresters learn basic maintenance such as mulching, minor pruning, tree planting and educational outreach,” said City of Dallas Forester Karen Woodard. The volunteer program gives residents the opportunity to help restore, enhance and conserve our urban forest.

The program, which consists of hands-on field and classroom training is supported by Dallas Park and Recreation Department and Regional Tree groups. After graduation, Citizen Foresters volunteer for tree projects throughout the city.

Registration for September classes ends Aug. 14. For more information call (214) 670-1509 or email [email protected].
