Vital Statistics moves to Central Library starting Monday

Beginning Monday Oct. 31, Dallas residents who need birth certificates or other Vital Statistics services will need to go to the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. The Bureau of Vital Statistics is moving from City Hall to the first floor of Central Library at 1515 Young St, right across from City Hall.

While the Vital Statistics office will open at 8:30 a.m. and the library does not open until 10 a.m., customers will have access to the first floor of the library. During that time, customers will be able to use the library facilities to print out identification items should they need it to help them complete their transaction with Vital Statistics. They will also be able to sign up for library cards.

“Vital Statistics averages about 300 visitors a day and now those customers will have access to everything the library has to offer to enrich their lives,” Director of Libraries Jo Giudice says. “We plan on working together with Vital Statistics so residents can get their business done and re-discover all the free opportunities the library has while they are here.”

Vital Statistics has same day walk-in lobby service for birth certificates, death certificates, birth abstract certificates, acknowledgement of paternity, funeral home service and notary services. Hours of operation are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
