Dallas Public Library helps adults earn high school diploma
The Dallas Public Library, in partnership with Gale/Cengage, offers adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate online through Career Online High School (COHS).
DPL’s program provides a limited number of scholarships to qualified adult learners who are looking to expand their career opportunities, prepare for workforce entry or continue their education.
Applicants who successfully complete an online self-assessment and a two week prerequisite course, followed by an in-person interview, will be considered for a scholarship to attain their accredited high school diploma.
Once enrolled, COHS pairs each student with an academic coach, who provides the student with an individual career path, offers ongoing guidance, evaluates performance and connects the student with the resources needed to master the courses. Students will be given up to 18 months to complete the program.
To be considered for the program, applicants must:
- Be City of Dallas residents (age 19 or over) or employees of the City of Dallas
- Have a Dallas Public Library card
- Have access to a computer and Internet either at home or at a library near you
- Be able to dedicate at least 8 hours per week to course study
