Year Up program will help young adults out of poverty and into careers

A new program will guide low-income young adults into professional careers by connecting them to companies looking for talent. Mayor Mike Rawlings was on hand at El Centro College to help launch the program, called Year Up.

The one-year intensive training program is geared toward low-income adults between 18-24, providing hands-on professional skills development that can also be used toward college credits.

Participants will receive an educational stipend and on-the-job experience through a corporate partner. Mentors and social services staff will also provide support.
