TXU Energy donation will help MLK Center and West Dallas Multipurpose Center

The Dallas City Council will vote Jan. 13 to accept a $440,000 donation from TXU Energy for the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and the West Dallas Multipurpose Center. The funds will help individuals and families experiencing a temporary financial crisis and will be administered through the City’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and the West Dallas Multipurpose Center.

TXU LogoTXU Energy and the City’s Housing/Community Services Department recognized the need to provide financial assistance to those needed help with essential energy related expenses. TXU Energy developed the TXU Energy Aid Program as a supplement to government and community aid programs designed to assist individuals in financial distress to reduce energy related costs.

The TXU Energy Aid Program is funded by voluntary contributions from TXU Energy. Average assistance per client for utility bill payments will be $700 to $900 with approximately 628 persons served. Additional funding would put the total of donations from TXU Energy to the City for this program at nearly $2 million since it began in 2010.
