Streets to be closed for St. Patrick’s Day events

Several events are scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 17, including St. Paddy’s Day Dash Down Greenville, Dallas St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival, and the St. Patrick’s Day Block Party. Event organizers expect some 90,000 people in attendance. 

Road closures related to the many special events and the large volume of pedestrian traffic along Greenville Avenue will impact traffic around Greenville Avenue from Park Lane to Vickery Boulevard between 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. To avoid traffic related to the events, avoid Greenville Avenue and use Skillman, McMillan, and Central Expressway to travel southbound and northbound.

Residents and businesses located between Central Expressway and Greenville Avenue should utilize entrances and exits west of Greenville Avenue.

For the parade, four pedestrian crossing points will be available after 1 p.m. at Southwestern Boulevard, Lovers Lane, Milton Street, and University Boulevard.

St. Paddy’s Day Dash Down Greenville 5K

Details: The 5K race starts at 8 a.m., at 5200 Greenville Ave. (south of Lovers Lane). It will proceed north on Greenville Avenue, turn right onto Caruth Haven Lane, turn left onto Southwestern Boulevard, turn right onto Skillman Street, turn right onto E. University Boulevard, and turn right onto Greenville Avenue on the northbound curb lane and return to the start/finish line. Cleanup will conclude at 10:30 a.m.

The following road closures take place from 6:30 – 10 a.m.:

  • Greenville Avenue – two northbound lanes closed from University Boulevard to Caruth Haven Lane
  • Caruth Haven Lane – all eastbound lanes closed from Greenville Avenue to Southwestern Boulevard
  • Southwestern Boulevard – all eastbound lanes closed from Caruth Haven Lane to Skillman Street
  • Skillman Street – two southbound lanes closed from Southwestern Boulevard to East University Boulevard
  • East University Boulevard – all lanes closed from Skillman Street to Greenville Avenue
  • Starting at 8 a.m. all eastbound lanes of East University Boulevard, Lovers Lane, and Caruth Haven are closed from Central Expressway to Greenville Avenue

Dallas St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival

Details: The event will require closing the southbound lanes of Greenville Avenue between Park Lane and Mockingbird Lane from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Northbound Greenville Avenue lanes will close at 10 a.m. and reopen immediately after the parade ends. The parade starts at 11 a.m., at Greenville Avenue and Blackwell Street. The parade will proceed south on Greenville Avenue to SMU Boulevard, turn right onto SMU Boulevard and disperse.

Southbound Matilda will be closed from Milton Street to Sandhurst Lane for employee parking from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Parking is not permitted from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. in these locations:

  • Parade route
  • Central Expressway Service Road from Mockingbird Lane to Park Lane
  • Meadows Building
  • CVS and Office Depot parking lots

St. Patrick’s Day Block Party

Details: This annual St. Patrick’s Day Block party will take place between the 2800 and 2900 block of Greenville Ave. North and southbound traffic on Greenville Avenue will be detoured east to Matilda Street. All closures will take place from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. The closures will include:

  • Goodwin Avenue from Worcola Street to Matilda Street
  • Vanderbilt Avenue between Worcola Street and Greenville Avenue
  • Greenville Avenue between Vanderbilt Avenue and Vickery Boulevard

The following streets will be designated one-way westbound from Greenville Avenue to McMillan Avenue from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

  • Monticello Avenue
  • Ridgedale Avenue
  • Vanderbilt Avenue
  • Goodwin Avenue
  • Vickery Boulevard
  • Miller Avenue

The following streets will be designated one-way eastbound from Greenville Avenue to Matilda Street from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

  • Marquita Avenue
  • Vanderbilt Avenue
  • Llano Avenue
  • Velasco Avenue

DART

Additional Red and Orange Line train service will be added March 17 from 6 a.m. – 11 p.m., from Plano to Mockingbird, Lovers Lane and Park Lane stations. From Carrollton, Farmers Branch and Dallas customers can ride the Green Line and transfer to either the Orange or Red Line in downtown Dallas. Passengers riding the TRE can transfer to the Orange or special event Red Line trains at Victory Station. Passengers who normally use Routes 502 and 583 at Lovers Lane Station will be unable to do so for much of the day Saturday. Both routes will be detoured from Lovers Lane to serve Mockingbird Station until approximately 6 p.m. or when Greenville is re-opened to traffic. Route 502 will continue to serve Park Lane Station. Free shuttle service will run from the Mockingbird Station to the St. Patrick’s Day Block Party from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Lyft is the official rideshare sponsor of the St. Patrick’s Day Block Party. New users can get $5 off three rides with the new user code: SPBP or 25% off a single ride to the block party for existing users with code: SPBLOCK18. The official rideshare drop-off location for the St. Patrick’s Day Block Party is the Mockingbird DART Station. Free shuttle service will run from the Mockingbird Station to the St. Patrick’s Day Block Party from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
