Preparations underway to protect Dallas residents during mosquito season

Consumer Health, a division of Code Compliance Services, is working around the clock ahead of mosquito season in Dallas. The official start of mosquito season begins May 1 and continues through October 31.

“As soon as the weather starts warming up, about now, we start looking at various sites that have the tendency to bring mosquitos,” said Michael Sanders, Environmental Specialist III.

Mosquito traps have been placed at almost 100 sites across the city of Dallas. Some sites include storm drains, bar ditches in the south section of the city, and abandoned swimming pools.

Keeping residents safe is priority number one for Sanders because in 2020 he says there were five mosquito-borne illness deaths in the city.

Sanders says the two best ways to protect each other from mosquitos is to remove any standing water and always wear repellent when outside.

Residents should report standing water or mosquito problems in their area by calling our 3-1-1. For additional information on mosquito control, visit www.dallascitynews.net/fightthebite.
