Numerous dogs and eight horses rescued by joint City services team

A joint City of Dallas team rescued dozens of dogs and eight horses at a Dallas residence on Jan. 13. The occupant of the residence was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty as an investigation continues.

As many as 60 dogs and eight horses were found on the property living without proper access to food and shelter. The dogs are being treated and housed at Dallas Animal Services (DAS) and the horses will be sent to the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, an animal sanctuary in Murchison, TX.

Representatives from City Code Compliance, Community Prosecution, DAS, Dallas Police Department, the Dallas Sheriff’s Office and the Dallas Marshal’s Office responded to the animal cruelty complaint at 5804 Margewood St.

DallasPETS.org, a City of Dallas educational campaign, was launched in November to address and foster community solutions for illegal dumping, loose animals, abuse and adoptions. In December, DAS targeted Council District 3 and answered 40 service requests, issued 215 violation notices, 35 citations, registered 20 animals, completed 43 intakes and made contact with 284 citizens.

A phone survey conducted by 3-1-1 at the beginning and end of the targeted initiative showed that the program was helpful and effective in responding to loose dogs and improving quality of life in the City.
