New restaurants opening soon near Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center

Dining options in downtown Dallas are expanding as four new restaurants move in across from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. Since last year the City of Dallas Convention & Event Services team has been working with Mathews Southwest and the Omni Dallas Hotel to expand dining options in the Convention Center District. The 16,000 square foot restaurant project sits on land owned by the City of Dallas and was constructed using money left over from the construction of the Omni hotel. The restaurants are slated to open by the end of October, weather permitting.

The new restaurants: Coal Vines Pizza, Biergarten on Lamar, Herrera’s Tex Mex Café, and a sushi restaurant called Little Katana all have outdoor patio space and underground parking. The City of Dallas Convention & Event Services team says they’ve been eager to add more attractions to the area around the convention center.

“For years convention attendees and meeting professionals have made it clear to us that the demand for more restaurants in the area was very high. We are glad to provide our clients and attendees with something they’ve been asking for,” said Convention & Event Services assistant director John Johnson. “It is a win, win for us to enhance the convention center attendee experience while also providing options for those who live and work downtown.”

Located in front of the Omni, the additional restaurants are within a short walk of the convention center and will help increase the economic impact of the Convention Center District along Lamar Street. The four new restaurants are adding to the district’s roster of eateries which currently includes Kay’s Place, Texas Spice, Bob’s Steak & Chop House, and the Owners Box sports bar.

The Omni will manage and maintain the parking and restaurant leases as an extension of their current hotel operations contract with the City of Dallas. For more information about the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, visit www.dallasconventioncenter.com.
