Mayor announces City-County partnership to end and prevent homelessness

Mayor Mike Rawlings has announced that the City of Dallas and Dallas County will partner to create a new organization to deal with homelessness. Formation of the Dallas Area Partnership to End and Prevent Homelessness fulfills a recommendation made last year by the Homeless Commission.

Rawlings said the partnership will review federal and local plans related to homelessness, develop clear policy recommendations, coordinate efforts among organizations represented by the Partnership’s board of directors, and will include more local citizen involvement.

The organization will also oversee two advisory groups; one comprised of employees of entities represented by the Board members; the other a 23-member community advisory group, which will include at least three homeless or formerly homeless individuals.

“I felt it was important for the public to know that I heard what the Commission requested and I am trying to make those things happen,” Rawlings said.
