Houston Street and Victory Avenue convert to two-way traffic Friday

Houston Street and Victory Avenue will be converted from one-way to two-way streets beginning Friday Nov. 20, weather conditions permitting. The change is expected to bring more retail and economic benefits, more non-event traffic, improve parking and appeal more to retail stores in the area.

Planned pedestrian improvements in the area will include wider sidewalks which will provide more area for outside dining and activities. To capitalize on the area’s proximity to the Katy Trail, bike lanes are planned on Houston Street, with a protective curb between the riders and vehicles on the road.

The City Council approved design and technical studies for the district in 2012. The studies examined circulation through the area, parking, urban neighborhood design, and retail analysis. The study recommended two-way circulation, enhanced sidewalks and improved bicycle circulation.
