What do you do when you don’t know a dog’s birthday? You celebrate Dogust!
Every year, animal shelters across the country recognize Dogust as the universal birthday for shelter dogs—a day to celebrate the resilient, lovable dogs waiting for families of their own. This year, Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is inviting the community to join the celebration during First Fridays from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7.
This free, family-friendly event transforms the shelter into one big birthday party, complete with birthday treats, games, photo opportunities and plenty of wagging tails. Most importantly, it’s a chance to meet the hundreds of dogs hoping this birthday is the one they spend with a new family.
“Dogust is all about celebrating our shelter dogs and bringing the community together,” said Nashla Kalifa, Manager of Foster & Volunteer Programs at Dallas Animal Services. “We hope families will come enjoy the festivities, meet some amazing dogs, and maybe even give one of them the greatest birthday gift of all—a loving home.”
Thanks to support from the Louis B. and Mary Ratliff Animal Welfare Fund at The Dallas Foundation through a grant to Friends of Dallas Animal Services, First Fridays continues to provide fun, free opportunities for the community to connect with shelter pets while learning how they can make a difference.

Every Adoption Saves More Than One Life
When a dog leaves the shelter through adoption or foster, it does more than change that pet’s life. It creates much-needed space for another animal arriving at Dallas Animal Services, helping the shelter continue caring for pets in need.
Whether you’re ready to welcome home a new best friend, interested in fostering, or simply want to celebrate with some deserving dogs, Dogust is the perfect opportunity to get involved.
