Dallas Water Utilities honored for Environmental Education initiative

Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) has received the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Environmental Excellence Award for its Environmental Education Initiative.

The Environmental Education Initiative (EEI) brings together the city’s Water Conservation Division and Sanitation Department to develop school and general outreach programs to encourage residents to make informed environmental decisions. To expand their impact in the community, the departments teamed with UNT’s Science Education Research Lab.

The EEI has delivered direct conservation awareness to more than 200,000 Dallas residents. These outreach programs, combined with quantitative research by SERL, demonstrate the effectiveness of the EEI. It is the innovative relationship between the City of Dallas and the University of North Texas that has created a shift to conservation behaviors, which is becoming a valuable tool to ensure that Texas water needs are met for generations to come.
