Dallas Police Department shares back to school safety tips

The Dallas Police Department has posted a list of safety tips to keep children safe as they go back to school. Young children, parents and teenagers may find the tips useful as well. The list covers multiple topics, such as school bus safety, how to get to school safely, and what drivers should know in school zones.

  • Drivers should slow down and watch for children crossing the street in a school zone
  • Students riding a bike to school should always wear a helmet and ride on the right side in the same direction as traffic is going
  • Parents should teach their children not to dart between parked cars, to wait on the curb for the bus to arrive, and only cross at intersections
  • In the car, children should be in car seats or booster seats until the seat belt fits properly

Schools in the Dallas Independent School District start on August 28.
