Dallas Police Athletic League and Dallas Parks hosts Big D Boxing

The Dallas Police Athletic/Activities League (PAL) and Dallas Park and Recreation hosted the second Annual Battle in Big D Boxing Tournament July 11-12 at the Janie C. Turner Recreation Center, 6424 Elam Road.

Dallas PAL has maintained a boxing program for the last seven years and several of the 40 boxers in the program are nationally ranked in their division. Several of the youth participating in Dallas PAL Boxing Club achieved significant weight loss prior to being allowed in the ring since physical fitness is a “must” in boxing.

The boxing gym at Turner Recreation Center has proven to be a great partnership for Dallas PAL and Park and Recreation, with five nationally ranked boxers. Fourteen-year-old Angel Melendez has been with the Dallas PAL program for seven years and is ranked number one in the country in the 75-pound division.

Aracely, Galindo aka (GG) – 13yrs old who has been with the Dallas PAL program for 3yrs. She goes to Samuell Middle school and has recently been accepted to the Samuell early College program. She is currently ranked number one in the nation in the 106 pound division.
