Dallas Animal Services exceeds capacity for large dogs

Dallas Animal Services (DAS) continues to see intake outpace outcomes for large dogs. Currently, at around 170% capacity with 510 dogs housed in 300 kennels, DAS is doubling up most of the large dog kennels in the facility. Our team, both staff and volunteers, alongside our dedicated rescue partners, are working tirelessly to find positive outcomes for the dogs in our care, but we need the community’s help.

DAS is calling for our community members who can adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate to show up this week during the Empty the Shelters Event and help us find positive outcomes for every placeable pet. Bissel Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters National Adoption Event is running October 1st through 15th, and all pets are currently free to adopt; are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped; and come with a voucher for a free veterinary visit.

Come adopt or foster in person at 1818 N. Westmoreland Road, Dallas, TX 75212 from:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday 1 to 7.pm.
  • Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

We have seen the power of the Dallas community before when 160 dogs found placement during our #150for150 foster campaign and we know together we can #BeDallas90. Take your new furry friend home at no cost and help be a part of the change!

You can visit BeDallas90.org to see available pets, become a foster, or join our volunteer program. Donations can be made to Friends of Dallas Animal Services at FriendsofDAS.org.
