Customer Alert: Fraudsters resume fraudulent disconnection calls to Dallas Water Utilities customers

Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) advises customers that fraudsters are again making fraudulent phone calls and sending text messages in both English and Spanish from a phone number claiming to be from DWU. The fraudsters made similar fraudulent disconnection calls in July 2022.

The phone number appears as 214-651-1441 and is labeled as Dallas Water. This phone number is the actual DWU Customer Service main number. Customers receiving the phone call or text message are advised by an automated system to make a payment on their account to avoid a disconnection. The recipients are being asked to make a payment either over the phone or through the text message payment link.

Dallas Water Utilities does not call customers before service disconnections. Disconnection notices are distributed by post mail.  As a security measure and to protect the customer’s personal financial data, DWU does not take payments over the phone with a live person. Payments processed over the phone are made through the Interactive Voice Response system.

Customers are advised not share any financial information or make payments. Individuals who suspect that they have fallen victim to this fraud should send an email to [email protected] and contact their financial institution.

Customers may find additional information on the advisory of the fraudulent phone calls and text messages on the City of Dallas, Dallas Water Utilities, ePay and social media websites. Customers with questions regarding their account may call DWU Customer Service at 214-651-1441, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
