Council receives update on Love Field Garage construction

The City’s Economic Development Committee received another update on parking development at Love Field, including addition of Garage C with 5,000 new parking spots over seven levels.

Love Field flights have increased with expiration of the Wright Amendment, which has increased the passenger count, and current public parking space of 6,980 is not enough to meet capacity.

Garage A and B already have counters displaying the number of free spots, based on entry/exit detection; Garage C will have exact numbers for each level, with embedded detectors at each parking spot. A sign at the entrance will alert drivers to the number of open spots on each level. Garage C will also have pay-on-foot stations to speed up paying parking fees when travelers are leaving.

The total project cost will be $9 million for foundation changes and installation and handling of contaminated soil; $2.6 million to install drainage and move underground utilities; and $3.6 million to cover increased market costs.

Additional construction will include an expansion for the Ticket Hall, improved roadways and a vehicular bridge, updates to payment systems at Garage A and B, and an in-airport pet relief area. The proposal also includes a new Law Enforcement Building that will house police and security units, Badging and the Airport Communications Center.

The next step is to receive City Council approval of the final price, and approve bonds to help with payment for the project. Garage C is expected to open by October 2018.
