City releases audit of FY 2015-16 revenue estimates

The City of Dallas has released its audit of revenue estimates included in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2015-16 Proposed Annual Budget. The audit focused on an assessment of the reasonableness of the revenue estimates included in the proposed budget.

Under the authority of the City Charter, the audit was conducted in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards with the intent of recommending a clear methodology and the proper documentation necessary to correct calculation errors and internal consistencies.

The City Auditor reviewed more than $2.1 billion of the $2.7 billion in proposed revenue estimates for the City’s General Fund, Enterprise Funds and Debt Service Fund, which accounts for 78 percent of the revenue estimates included in the FY 2015-16 Proposed Budget. The audit recommended that the City’s Department of Aviation work with the Director of the Office of Financial Services to ensure the formal documentation of all applicable, properly supported methodologies and that necessary verification of calculations and assumptions are made regarding revenue estimates.
