City Council hears proposal for development of Bishop Arts Station

The City Council is considering a proposal to provide $11.2 million in TIF funds to help develop apartments and retail stores in the Bishop Arts District. The Bishop Arts Station Project would be located on the northwest and southeast corners of West Davis Street and Zang Boulevard.

The TIF funds will offset demolition, environmental remediation, infrastructure improvements (wide sidewalks, street trees, pedestrian lighting), open space/plaza improvements and utility improvements. The development would house 209 residential units and more than 25,000 square feet of retail space and parking.

This project is part of the recently created Bishop Arts/Jefferson sub-district, expected to begin construction in August. The developer would also coordinate with Public Works on an extension of the existing Oak Cliff street car line.

The Council is expected to vote on the proposal Feb. 24.
